When couples experience infertility, it can be a terrible shock.
"Infertility is an extraordinary journey that most couples never dream they
will encounter," says marriage and family counselor Barbara Currey, who
will lead a discussion on the topic as part of the Center for Women's Brown Bag
Series.
She says the discussion, "Infertility: The Impact on your Relationship," will
look at all the aspects that come into play when a couple faces infertility.
While it might seem that the meeting is for women only, men are also invited,
she says.
"It would be nice if men would come, too," she says. "Most of
the time, the men don't understand what the medication does to the woman or know
how to deal with the emotional impact of this."

The
issue can also be a tough one when it comes to dealing with
families and friends, says Currey, who provides counseling for
couples and individuals through her private practice and through
the Southeastern Fertility Center. Currey's family has also
been touched by infertility.
" Couples
need balance in their relationship, so the infertility doesn't
become overwhelmingly the issue in the marriage," Currey
says. "I hope I can provide information for couples to
help them cope better."
The free program will be held at noon Thursday at the Center for Women, 531 Savannah
Highway. For more information, call the center at 763-7333.
"I have found that this is a topic that, if you have some information, it
really does help," Currey says. |
