How to Communicate With Men
It is a basic need and desire to connect, but for women and men it poses a great challenge. The dance of the pursuer and distancer begins as old roles are played out and often ends with needs unmet. Disappointment, frustration and hurt are the results of these interactions. Why is intimacy so difficult to experience within our relationships? How can we create meaningful dialogue with each other? Women and men must discover the “we” in the relationship to find common ground for authentic connection. We will explore how boundaries, communication styles, gender differences, and even the words that we choose support us in creating this connection.

Women's History Month Event
ONCE in AFGHANISTAN - American Women Making History
The C4W is hosting a special event to commemorate Women’s History Month by telling the story of a group of women Peace Corps Volunteers who were instrumental in eradicating smallpox in Afghanistan.
Producer Jill Vickers and 6 of the women Peace Corps Volunteers will be attending and will conduct a question and answer period after the film has been shown. In 1969 the World Health Organization made the eradication of smallpox its top priority. In Afghanistan young women trained to give vaccinations by the Peace Corps joined teams of male vaccinators to help meet this challenge. They were responsible primarily for reaching the women and girls as Afghanistan’s traditional Muslim culture discouraged contact between them and men outside the family. To do this, they traveled to remote areas and worked house by house. The Afghan women’s resistance to being vaccinated was one challenge. Another was the harsh climate and terrain. Also, the Americans, most of whom had no health training, were sometimes expected to help the sickest person in the village.
“ONCE in AFGHANISTAN” is their story. The film explores the women’s often humorous recollections of adjusting to life in Afghanistan and the profound impact being there has had on their lives. |

The gathering is open to non-experienced and experienced writers. The workshop will focus on writing prompts that will allow the participant to engage with the rhythmical energies of poetry that is an integral part of every female’s inner self. Participants will share their journey as honored members of our country’s Armed Services; they will read poems written by poets who have documented their experiences as service men and women throughout peaceful and war-ridden times. Women participating in this seminar will write individually, collaboratively, and learn how to make wider leaps—and take larger imaginative risks—in the writing of narrative poems.
Charlene Monahan Spearen holds an MFA degree in Creative Writing and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition. Her work has appeared in The Southern Poetry Anthology: South Carolina, Yemmessee, Writers at Carolina, Aspects, and Promise Magazine. |

From Blog to Book
Heather Solos is a blogger turned author and founder of Home-Ec101.com, a site dedicated to teaching regular people the lifeskills they may have missed on the road to adulthood. In March of 2011 Home-Ec 101: Skills for Everyday Living was released by Betterway Home a division of F+W Media. The program Blog to Book will cover the pros and cons of using an agent, crafting your pitch, capitalizing on your social media reach, writing a book proposal, and signing the contract. The program will also discuss the different routes bloggers have taken to become published, including starting with self-publishing. Blog to Book will also touch on deciding whether or not e-publishing is right for your site and goals. This session will focus on the non-fiction side of publishing, but many of the suggestions can be transferred to the fictional side of the industry. |

Choosing to be vibrant in a beautiful life
- Money - It's the elephant in the room. Friend or Foe? Do you run for the covers when you have to deal w/ money, bills and debt. Or do you know how to make money work for you without stress? Take power of your money!
- The power of thought - live with positive words when it comes to your finances. What you think is what you become. The thought of money itself, can sometimes be overwhelming and spiral out of control if not mindfully controlled.
- Image - Bills, debt or fear of money can impact the way you present yourself. Continue to feel good about the way you look without spending like you used to. Psychologically, if we aren't in the right state of mind and take power of our finances, it can impact our appearance for the worst. This doesn't have to be the case. Maintain and feel beautiful without racking up debt.

Empowerment Workshop
Discover and unleash your personal best
The Next Chapter Revised:
A Workshop for Women 50 & Older
Growing old is a choice which you can face with complacency, depression and a sense of loss or see it as a new stage and opportunity for growth. We all possess
a unique set of skills that can be applied in new and diverse ways if we take the time to recognize this. This workshop is intended for women fifty years and above who seek to rediscover their true sense of self, redefine their goals for the future and consciously change direction. Searching uncharted paths, examining new roles and finding alternative sources of personal satisfaction, participants will feel empowered to move forward with promise, excitement and confidence. The workshop will explore ways to abandon old fears, insecurities and negative thinking. It will bring greater awareness of self-defeating actions and obstacles to change and open the door to new directions. If you wonder what life will be like in the next ten years, join us as we ask the questions, share our stories and discover the answers. Sharon Becker, L.I.S.W., A.C.S.W.

Women and Power Series
For women who want to inspire, lead and succeed
Be a Woman of Power: Take Care and Take Charge
Women in business face a cocktail of cultural, organizational and personal impediments which hinder their progress up the career ladder. Yet there’s both hope and a way to overcome those obstacles! Just like the sports team that goes from worst to first by banding together and relentlessly pursuing a common goal, women can do the same by stepping up and into their personal and professional power. Based on research involving Betsy Magness Leadership Institutes graduates and work done by Stanford University, Jane Perdue of Braithwaite Innovation Group will address three key areas for women in business to take care, take charge and then step up and into power positions.

Preparing for Turning 65 & Medicare
Every day 10,000 Baby Boomers turn 65 - one every 8 seconds! Aside from the milestone birthday, turning 65 means qualifying for Medicare and trying to make sense of a dizzying array of options and deadlines. This program will sort out the “alphabet soup” of the Medicare program - Part A, B, C and Part D – the Prescription Drug program. In addition, if you are working, this program will help you determine how your current coverage applies and whether you need a Medicare Supplement – or “Medigap” coverage. An Interview with Muffie Faith
Elizabeth Stuart Faith, called Muffie, is the energy and talent behind Elizabeth Stuart Design. She is a woman of passion as diverse as her style. She is a mother, wife, friend and tireless traveler. A self-professed flea market junkie, her style spans from bohemian to the refined. Muffie's creative inspiration comes from the small, real moments of an on-the-go life. With an eye for design she pays close attention to detail while honing in on objects and fabrics rich in color and story. Her sophisticated eye and bold, smart aesthetic were nurtured from the beginning as a child growing up surrounded by her father's art collection and her mother's garden menagerie. "I was the one in my family constantly changing around my room. I always went for what was a little off the edge," says Muffie.
For over a decade, Muffie's well-trained eye has selected a treasured array of home furnishings, fabrics, accessories, artwork, and jewelry to create her thriving retail and interior design boutiques: Elizabeth Stuart Design (ESD). Today, ESD represents a culmination of her creative momentum. ESD is recognized as one of the Southeast's premier design emporiums, heralded by Southern Accents, Southern Living, HGTV, and Charleston HOME.
