Writing From Your Senses

In this creative writing workshop, poets, journalists, memoir writers, and writers of fiction will be encouraged to employ all of their senses in order to find new ways of expression, bring beauty to their writing, and learn to observe the world more closely. Through in-class writing prompts and weekly writing suggestions, you will be able to more fully develop characters, describe scenes, and go deeper in your writing than you ever imagined. Empowerment Group

Daughter's Grief

A bereavement group for adult women who have experienced the death of a mother. This is an opportunity to explore the unique challenges of mother loss in a supportive environment and learn how to cope with loss in ways that lead to healing and growth. Facilitated by Faye Slater, M.A., LPC.

Finding Happiness

Have recent life stresses left you feeling anxious and depressed? Start the journey back to reclaiming your best life by joining with other women experiencing similar challenges in a confidential, educational, and fun peer empowerment group. The group will focus not only on validating your experience but also on problem solving around life challenges, accessing and mobilizing inner resources for change, and developing strategies for overcoming obstacles and setbacks.

Special Event


The Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation for Postpartum Depression Awareness will host the 2010 Moms’ Run, which will start at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The 5K walk/run will begin at 8:30am and proceed down Daniel Island Drive, through the beautiful Etiwan Park neighborhood and back to Blackbaud Stadium.

Participants are invited to stick around for post-race festivities: food from Daniel Island Grille, live entertainment and family-friendly vendors. The event is sponsored in part by the Center for Women, Lowcountry Parent and The Mom Spa. This is a family-friendly event. Strollers are welcome.

The Successful Novelist: Cassandra King and Nicole Seitz

Meet two novelists who have successful track records in the publishing industry and popular press.

Cassandra King portrays strong and memorable characters who struggle with the same timely issues and dilemmas that readers face in their own lives. Her novels include: Making Waves in Zion, The Sunday Wife, Queen of Broken hearts and The Same Sweet Girls. King currents lives in the Low Country of South Carolina with her husband, novelist Pat Conroy.

Nicole Seitz is an author, artist and speaker whose work is deeply influenced by her faith and the mystique and charm of the Lowcountry. Her novels include The Spirit of Sweetgrass, A One Hundred Years of Happiness, Trouble the Water and The Spirit of Sweetgrass. Seitz currently lives in Charleston with her husband and two children.
